Colonel (R) John Alexander is a distinguished military graduate of the University of Colorado and was commissioned as an armor officer in 1984.  He served as a tank platoon leader, scout platoon leader and company executive officer in 2-34 Armor and then 2-77 Armor after unit re-designation at Fort Carson, Colorado. 

 

After graduating from the Armor Advanced Course, he attended the Special Forces Officer Qualification Course at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina and was assigned to the 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne) at Fort Lewis, Washington.  He commanded two A-Detachments for special reconnaissance and underwater operations. 

 

After attending assessment and selection, he was assigned to the 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta (Airborne) (1st SFOD-D) where he served several years in various positions including squadron commander, operations officer, deputy operations officer, squadron operations officer, and troop commander during multiple tours of duty. 

 

Between assignments at 1st SFOD-D he attended the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas and was later assigned to the J3 Operations Directorate on the Joint Staff at the Pentagon.  After squadron command he was assigned as Chief of Current Operations for the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and later as the Director of the US Army Special Operations Agency and the Chief of the G3 Special Operations Division on the Army Staff.  He is the former Commander of Area Support Group-Kuwait where he worked very closely with Kuwaiti Defense and Interior Ministries and political officials. He retired from that position in July 2008 and began working as a private business consultant in Kuwait for, US and Kuwaiti companies, focusing mainly on defense services and natural gas project development.  Presently he is the president of Ascent International Inc, a US company focused on business development between the US and Middle East. 

 

He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s degree in military arts and science.  He was also a National Security Fellow at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. His decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star for Valor, two Bronze Stars for service, three Defense Meritorious Service Medals, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge (second award), the Master Parachutist Badge, HALO and Combat Dive Supervisor Badges, and the Special Forces Tab among others.
